Thanks for including me on your "Blogs I follow" too! It seems like you're getting some great work done-- keep it up and I'm sure you'll work past the heel and leg issues you've been having. For what little I've read in your blog over the past few weeks, I think wearing a heart rate monitor will help your training a ton. I've had great luck since training with primarily HR last year. Helped me judge effort on a whole new level. Good luck and I'm sure I'll see you (from the sidelines) at Runner's Alley/Redhook or MSD! I was curious as to how short the course was as I do not have a GPS, but I guessed it was exactly 3 miles. As far as those tricky turns in the second mile, holy crap! I was actually guessing and hoping that I was not messing you up at the same time! All is well that ends well! I actually teach in that district and that is a really cool race to donate to. When I saw 5:40 at mile one I was like c'mon! haha, Good luck with the comeback and if nothing else enjoy yourself along the way! -PatFish Story Guide Servicehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06966593936673296242noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7583984154331408428.post-66209364009522989952015-03-30T18:35:15.008-04:002015-03-30T18:35:15.008-04:00wow...cliffhanger!!! wow...cliffhanger!!! Yes, I've been ...Thanks for the advice Patrick. Yes, I've been operating under the assumption that it is plantar fasciitis but haven't had it confirmed yet. I was waiting to see if it would come around with some rest. I read up on PF and have been doing some of the suggested treatments: ice, calf stretches, strength exercises, arch support, but haven't gone as intense as the sleeping boot just yet haha. It's interesting that you found easy running helpful. I may have to give that a try. Most of what I read was suggesting easing back into running once you are pain free, and my heel is still pretty sore in the morning. I'll take any excuse to get a run in though. Maybe I'll head out for a mile or two and see how it feels. If your heel problem is plantar fasciitis (??) and not the result of an acute injury to the area, I would recommend working on hamstring and calf flexibility and easing back into running on softer surfaces. I have dealt with long periods of heel pain over the last ten-plus years, and usually find that some running is better than no running. Of course, I don't really know how to ride a bike or swim, but hopefully that's beside the point.Patrick Richhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18018340056717339542noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7583984154331408428.post-27777648337809773092014-07-02T15:30:37.063-04:002014-07-02T15:30:37.063-04:00Patrick, I am actually considering just calling it...Patrick, I am actually considering just calling it for the summer and focusing on getting ready for the fall. We'll see though. I've been looking for a running club for a while. I was leaning towards NBB or GBTC, but I'm yet to meet the performance standards. I haven't made a decision though. What's up with the CMS website!? I tried to take a look and get some info on CMS, but it seems to be broken.

Thanks Sean, I appreciate the advice! I've been thinking along the same lines recently. It's just a matter of actually doing it haha. I always have a tough time with throttling back. It does help to develop lactate threshold but without increased capacity (from long easy runs) threshold will kind of eventually plateau out (as you pointed out)

just my 2 cents...Seanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09799079117588287292noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7583984154331408428.post-17349006838590451282014-07-02T10:23:54.971-04:002014-07-02T10:23:54.971-04:00Just make sure you are ready to join CMS in time f...Just make sure you are ready to join CMS in time for the Labor Day 15k in August! Racing in our company t-shirt wasn't ideal, and I decided to go with trainers since I am coming off an ankle injury.
